Separating astrophysics and geometry in black hole images

The observation of the shadow supermassive black hole M87$^{*}$ by Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) is sensitive to spacetime geometry near circular photon orbit and beyond, it thus has potential test general relativity in strong field regime. Obstacles this program, however, include degeneracies between putative deviations from both description accretion flow uncertainties on "calibration parameters", such as e.g. mass spin hole. In work, we introduce a formalism, based principal component analysis, capable reconstructing metric (i.e. "signal") an agnostic way, while subtracting "foreground" due calibration parameters modelling flow. We apply our technique simulated mock data for spherically symmetric holes surrounded thick disk. show that separation signal foreground may be possible with next generation EHT-like experiments.
